Lobi Stars defeated Kwara United 1-0 on Saturday at the Lafia City Stadium in a critical Matchday 15 encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), thereby climbing out of the relegation zone.
The Alia Boys maintained a firm grip on the game from the outset, displaying unrelenting focus and tenacity. Their breakthrough occurred in the 26th minute when Peter Onah seized upon a well-crafted pass from Ifeanyi Assurance, firing past Kwara United goalkeeper Nurudeen Badmus to secure a well-deserved advantage for Lobi Stars.
Despite the persistent attacking efforts of Onah, Assurance, and Waheed Adebayo, the Makurdi-based side remained firmly in control at the end of the first half.
Lönnström implemented tactical adjustments, introducing Suur Kumaga, Christian Madu, and Alao Danbani to maintain momentum. Kwara United valiantly fought back but were reduced to 10 men in the 87th minute after Junior Aimufua received a second yellow card for a foul on John Lazarus.
Lobi Stars will be away next weekend to Nasarawa United on Matchday 16 while Kwara United will play hosts to Enyimba at the Kwara State Stadium in Ilorin.
