Benue State Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has sent out words of sympathy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT), the Bishops and the entire people of Oyo, Abuja and Anambra over the recent stampedes in the three locations that led to dozens of deaths.
There was a stampede during a children’s funfair in Ibadan on Wednesday, December 18th, 2024, leading to the loss of lives. Surging crowds became uncontrollable during food distribution in two separate incidents in Abuja and Okija, in Anambra State, last week.
In a condolence message to President Tinubu, Bishops, the families and victims of the sad incidents, Governor Alia describes the incidents are painful, saying the ugly events have put the nation in mourning at a time the whole world is about to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the savior, Sir Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor says in a statement.
The statement adds that charity organisations, philanthropists, and event planners should always consider the safety of Nigerians during planning, insisting that the precious lives that the country has lost at this time would have been averted if proper safety measures had been put in place.
While praying for quicker healing for the injured and eternal rest for the deceased, Governor Alia equally prays to God to grant the grieving families the fortitude to bear the painful demise of their loved ones.
