Former Plantashun Boyz member, 2Baba, 46, has hit back at critics, calling them hypocrites over his divorce with wife, Annie Macaulay -Idibia, 40.
The controversy began on Sunday, 26th January, 2025, when 2Baba, in a now-deleted post on his Instagram page, announced his separation from Annie, his wife of 12 years.
Part of 2Baba’s reaction (in Pidgin), shared by Facebook blog Afrocania, reads:
“All these years wey I dey suffér kidnéy fa!lure, where una been dey?
“My wifé dey more interested in her reality shows.
“Most times, I been dey alone for hospital.
“How many times I leave hospital bed to attend to appointments, just to cater for the family I love so much and I suffered sévere conséquences and relapses for that.
“Where una been dey?
“I don become dévil now because person dey act drama untop div0rce wey she cause for herself.
“Nothing dey happen sha.”
Mimi Atedze a.k.a Mimz, digital creator and owner of FabmimiNews, thinks divorce between the two could be as a result of “long-standing issues between the couple.” She, however cautioned: “Let’s watch and see if it’s just a mere prank!”
Until the news, Annie and 2Baba were one of Nigeria’s biggest celebrity couples. They got married in 2012.
According to the FabmimiNews owner, in September 2021, there was significant public drama involving 2Baba and his wife, Annie, and 2Baba’s family.
“Annie publicly accused 2Baba’s family of failing to support her and interfering in their marriage. In response, Charles Idibia, 2Baba’s younger brother, defended the family in a strongly worded post, accusing Annie of trying to control 2Baba and tarnishing his reputation. He (Charles) alleged that her actions were causing emotional stress for the singer, portraying him as unhappy and trapped,” Mimz says.
