PDP BoT passes confidence vote on chair, recognises Udeh-Okoye as national secretary

Date:

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has unanimously passed a Vote of confidence on the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara and Secretary of the board, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, for their outstanding leadership in piloting the affairs of the BoT and stabilising the party. Also, PDP BoT, in adopting the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN committee report on the issue of the party’s National Secretary about the declarative judgment of the High Court sitting at Enugu as upheld by the Court of Appeal, recognises Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the substantive National Secretary of the PDP.

These are the major issues as contained in the communique issued at the end of the Emergency Meeting of the PDP BoT on Wednesday, 5th February 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja and presented by the Chairman of the BoT, Senator Wabara.

The BoT derives authority under Section 32 (5)(a) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017) to ensure the highest standards of morality in all the Party’s activities by acting as the Party’s conscience, with powers to call to order any officer of the Party whose conduct falls below the norms.

According to the communique, the BoT charges the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP to recognise and immediately swear in Hon. Udeh-Okoye as the National Secretary, “in obedience to the Judgment of the Court of Appeal.”

It also urges all party organs, critical stakeholders, leaders and members across the country, as well as all democracy development partners and institutions, to be guided by the judgment of the Court of Appeal, recognising Udeh-Okoye as PDP national secretary.
