69 development workers in Benue State have been taken through intensive one day training on Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Fundamentals. The virtual training is organised by Menroi Rural Priority Foundation.
Prof Iornem, founder of Menroi Rural Priority Foundation, says the training became necessary, to strengthen the capacity of development workers in effectively tracking project progress, assessing impact, and improving accountability.
The training was facilated by Dr. Mac Sam Ugbaa, an M&E expert. Dr. Ugbaa spoke on the importance of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) for development workers. According to the guest speaker, M&E helps identify and address issues through systematic data collection and analysis, ensuring both short-term and long-term success. The framework covered project objectives, procedures, and key performance indicators.
Specifically, the Director of Programmes and moderator of the training session, Miss Sophia Kwaghzan, says the training aims to introduce key M&E concepts, frameworks, and principles; build participants’ skills in designing M&E plans and indicators; enhance understanding of data collection, analysis, and reporting; and foster the use of M&E for evidence-based decision-making and program improvement.
Ana Ortserga, Menroi’s Programmes Manager, told TNT that the training was conducted using a mix of interactive lectures, case studies, and practical exercises, with participants engaged in hands-on activities, to apply M&E concepts to real-life development scenarios.
She explains that the training successfully equipped development workers with essential M&E skills to improving programme effectiveness.
“Moving forward, we aim to provide more targeted support to ensure the practical application of M&E principles in participants’ respective projects,” Ana says of Menroi future plans.
