In a just society, Nigeria’s former Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida’s (retd) confession that MKO Abiola won the June 12 1993 presidential election, is enough reason to arrest the former dictator and try him for subverting democracy, Mr. Francis Nyitor, teacher, has said.
Mr. Nyitor’s comment follows a revelation by the former Head of State in his autobiography, ‘A Journey in Service,’ which was unveiled in Abuja today, Thursday, 20th February 2025.
The book’s reviewer is former Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo. He quoted IBB as saying, “There was no doubt in my mind; MKO Abiola won the election. He satisfied all the requirements.”
While regretting his action in one breath, in another, IBB said he acted in a manner that Nigeria could survive.
“And June 12 happened under my watch; mistakes, oversights, and missteps happened in quick succession, but I say in my book, in all matters, we acted in the supreme national interest so that Nigeria could survive,” the former Head of States stated.
Mr. Nyitor, a young school leaver at the time of the annulment, told TNT that he “was enlightened enough to know what was going on” before adding: “In a truly just society, Babangida’s confession alone would warrant his arrest, trial and life imprisonment for subverting democracy.”
