The Bishop Catholic Diocese of Katsina-Ala Most Rev Isaac Dugu, has reiterated the call for reconcillation and unity in Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo Federal Constituency also known as Sankera, saying “we have shed blood enough in Sankera.”
Bishop Dugu, who made the appeal in a homily at the thanksgiving service in honour of Comrade Alexander Fanafa, General Manager (GM) Benue Links (Nigeria) Limited, at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque’s Parish Tor Donga, called for the forgiveness of one another and to device strategies that would bring peace and development in the area.
The Bishop is the Chairman Sankera Peace and Reconcilliation Committee and has been engaging local bandits in the area for the purpose of dropping arms and embracing peace. He said he has the support of the Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, to restore peace in Sankera.
Bishop Dugu however indicated in what seems like “impending stick approach” by the government on bandits that in a little more time to come, no one will be begged to drop arms.
“For now, we are pleading. Let’s go back to brotherly love,” Bishop Dugu appealed while calling on legislators from the axis to make laws that will restore peace and order.
He described Comrade Fanafa as a humble and God fearing man, who is committed to his work and called for prayers for the Benue Links GM.
Comrade Fanafa was appointed Acting General Manager of Benue Links in 2023 by the Fr. Alia administration, with his appointment as substantive General Manager confirmed in 2024.
The Benue Links General Manager told the church that he found favour in the eyes of the Governor, who without lobbying, trusted him for the job.
Chief of Staff (CoS) to the Governor, Mr. Paul Biam, acknowledged that the governor did not know Comrade Fanafa at the time of his appointment as Acting General Manager. He explained that Fr. Alia picks his appointtees based on inspiration from God.
“Fanafa is a child of truth. He has demonstrated that he can very well handle the assignment given to him,” Mr. Biam said, adding that Comrade Fanafa’s appointment is not by mistake.
