The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Benue State Chapter, and Guma Local Government Council (LGC), Hon. Maurice Orwough, has said that dry-season farming has the potential to boost the local economy and bring development to the people.
Hon. Orwough made this known at the weekend during the flagoff of a Pilot Dry Season Farming initiative launched by the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), in Guma Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
While stressing the need for cooperation between local farmers, the host community, and the project initiators to ensure the farm’s success and protection from scavengers, the Benue ALGON boss emphasised the importance of supporting the initiative to succeed.
He commended AFAN for the initiative and assured that his Council would provide the needed security so that the project’s aim would not be defeated.
The LAGON boss, however, cautioned against any plot to cause insecurity in the local government, saying any plan to disrupt the peace being enjoyed in LGA for cheap political gains will not be tolerated.
Benue State Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, was represented at the event by Prof Moses Ogbaji, Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources.
