BNSG announces scholarship for 44 BSU first class graduates, opens Adikpo campus
The Benue State Government (BNSG) has announced full scholarship for all 44 first class graduates of Benue State University (BSU) Makurdi, “to pursue their master’s degrees, a token of our commitment to promoting intellectual growth and leadership.” Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Executive Governor of the State and Visitor to the university, who announced this scholarship, also announced the establishment of a BSU Campus Adikpo.
BSU was established in 1992 by the administration of Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu (of blessed memory) to augment the specialised academic offerings of the now JS Tarka University Makurdi, invariably providing manpower needs of the State and the global community. The university awarded a total of 17,925 degrees in various fields across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and honorary degrees to six distinguished Nigerians at the combined 22nd, 23rd and 24th Convocation of the BSU held on 7th December, 2024.
Fr. Alia, while addressing the convocation, also announced the donation of 500 computers to the institution’s Computer-Based Test (CBT) center, saying, it will “empower our youths, students and faculty in embracing the future of technology-driven education.”
“Additionally, I am excited to equally announce the establishment of the University of Agriculture, Science, and Technology at Ihugh in Vandeikya LGA. This new institution will harness Benue’s vast agricultural resources and spur technological innovation, with the goal of advancing food security and economic prosperity for our State and beyond.
“In our continued efforts to expand access to higher education, we are also opening a Benue State University campus in Adikpo, Kwande LGA, along with a satellite campus in Zone A, ensuring that more students across the State have opportunities for advanced learning.
“In honouring the vision of the late Governor Moses Adasu, who was instrumental in founding Benue State University, I have sent an executive bill to the Benue State House of Assembly, proposing the renaming of the institution in his memory. This gesture is a fitting tribute to a leader whose legacy continues to inspire [us]”
“Education is the cornerstone of transformation, and together, we are laying the foundation for a greater tomorrow,” the Governor affirmed.
