Benue State Governor Fr Hyacinth Alia today in Makurdi unveiled Zeva, a new alcoholic beverage produced by the state-owned Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC).
BIPC General Manager, Mr. Raymond Asemakaha, had promised to deliver the beverage before the end of this year. The state’s brewery company, Benue Brewery Limited (BBL), producers of More lager beer, had been privatised before the coming into office of Fr. Alia as Governor in 2023.
Zeva is a Tiv general term for alcoholic beverages. Nigeria Brewery (NB) has reportedly sold more beer in Benue, a state dominated by the Tiv, at a single stretch than any other state in the country.
Alcoholic and non-alcoholic takers in the state have expressed enthusiasm to see the product come to reality once BIPC announced it was building a Brewery.
Lager beer retails at least one thousand Naira (N1000.00) in Benue State, and BIPC says it is determined to crash the price of commodities in the state.
Locals say the company has already intervened in water and bread, helping to check their rising prices.
Hundreds have gathered at Ibrahim Babangida Square Makurdi, for the unveiling.
