Benue Assembly approves N550.1b for Fr. Alia in 2025

The Benue State Assembly on Monday, 30th December 2024, passed into law the 2025 Appropriation Bill of Five Hundred and Fifty Billion, One Hundred and Twelve Million, Nine Hundred and Eighty-Eight Thousand, Nine Hundred and Thirty Naira, Forty-Five Kobo (N 550, 112, 988, 930•45k) only.

On 11 December this year, the state governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, presented the total estimate of N550,112,988,930.45, which he tagged “Budget of Human Capital Development, Food Security, and Digital Economy,” to the state assembly. The estimate represents a 65.3 per cent increase from the N225.7b 2024 budget.

The 2025 estimates were passed after scaling through the third reading during the plenary, which was presided over by the Speaker, Chief Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.

Rt. Hon. Cephas Dyako, House Committee Chairman on Appropriation, had, prior to the clause-by-clause consideration of the bill in the committee of the whole, presented a report on the estimates, leading to the third reading.

Mr. Terver Zamber, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Speaker, says in a statement that two bills also enjoyed a third reading at the plenary today. They are Bill for the renaming of Benue State University Makurdi to Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University and Bill for the establishment of Benue State University of Agriculture Science and Technology Ihugh.

The House also recommended that basic school teachers be recruited strictly according to their Local Government Areas (LGAs) of origin.

Today’s sitting marked the close of the second sitting of the second Legislative Session of the Tenth Assembly.

Mr Zamber says during the second sitting, the House received 16 bills and passed nine, while four are at the committee level and five are pending. The House has also, within the period, received 13 reports, out of which one has been conclusively debated while 12 still pending, received and deliberated on 17 motions, adopted 31 major resolutions, received seven major communications including requests to revise the 2024 Supplementary Budget and confirm the executive Governor’s nominees for appointment as Chairman and Members of the Benue State Assembly Service Commission.
