One of the kidnappers of Deacon Emmanuel Tor Yaji, President General (PG) Kunav United Development Association (KUDA), is confirmed dead following a gun duel with operatives of the Nigeria Police. At the same time, one was arrested at Adikpo, Kwande Local Government Area (LGA) headquarters, a police spokesperson says in a statement.

Chief Superintendant of Police (CSP) Sewuese Anene, spokesperson for the Benue State Command of the Nigeria Police, says Deacon Yaji was rescued at about 1300 hrs (1:00 PM) local time at Nambe, Adikpo.

The KUDA PG was kidnapped at Tsar Mbaduku, “where he sat relaxing with his friends,” on 30th December 2024.

Although two of the gang members fled, the police statement says items, including “one (1) AK-47 rifle loaded with twelve (12) rounds of live ammunition and three (3) AK-47 magazines,” were recovered from the deceased suspect.

The statement adds that Deacon Yaji “was rescued unhurt and has been reunited with friends and family. ”

Further investigation to arrest suspects at large is ongoing, concludes CSP Anene.

Meanwhile, there is jubilation following news of the rescue of Deacon Yaji, with one man saying “it was a misadventure on the part of the abductors.”

President General Kunav Youth Organisation, Makurdi branch, Pastor Abel Ugbir, says “all glory to God for the safe return of our father.”
